What is STEM education? It's much more than Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, which are usually taught as stand-alone subjects. STEM is the applied, integrated approach to those subjects. It is about using math and science to solve real-world challenges and problems. This applied, project-based way of teaching and learning allows students to understand and appreciate the relevancy of their work to the world around them. STEM helps turn our students into creators, thinkers, problem-solvers, doers, innovators, and inventors.
This year, we are delighted to announce the introduction of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) for students in K-8. Project Lead the Way is a nationally recognized, non-profit organization that provides STEM education in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
From the PLTW website:
"Project Lead The Way program (PLTW) creates an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empowers students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive.
"Students in grades K-5 are in the PLTW Launch program that focuses on 43 interdisciplinary modules that bring learning to life. The program empowers students to adopt a design-thinking mindset through compelling activities, projects, and problems that build upon each other and relate to the world around them. And as students engage in hands-on activities in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science, they become creative, collaborative problem solvers ready to take on any challenge.
"Students in grades 6-8 are in PLTW Gateway’s 10 units that empower students to lead their own discovery. The hands-on program boosts classroom engagement
